•  Cardboard: It is one of the most common materials used in disposable containers. Foods in these packages keep their freshness and heat. Since the cardboard packaging is resistant to oil, the products stored in these containers do not lose their taste for a long time.

• Polypropylene (PP): This material is used to make items such as food packaging and containers, disposable cups, and baby feeding bottles. Products of these materials not affected by temperature changes. They are strong and lasting, and may be used in a microwave oven. It is not suggested to keep alcoholic beverages or natural oils since they might change the structure of the product.

• Polystyrene (PS): Suitable for storing products such as meat, fish, eggs. Containers made of this material are intended for products stored in the refrigerator and should not be exposed to heat.

• PET: Shelf life of containers made of this material is one year. It is intended for the storage of non-alcoholic beverages and vegetable oils. It should not be used in temperature exceeding +22 degrees Celsius.

• Aliminium: This packaging is very common in modern catering facilities. It can be used for cooking, storing food in the oven, and also for freezing food like greens, berries, vegetables, fruits, and semi-prepared meals in the fridge.

• Expanded polystyrene (foam containers): These containers are designed for packing and transporting fresh food. They keep the quality and freshness of the product for a long time.

• Eco-friendly packaging: The main feature of eco-packaging is that it is resistant to temperature changes and keeps the freshness of the product, without harming the environment. This type of packaging includes packaging and products made from wood, bamboo, sugarcane, and corn starch.  

• Bio-packaging: This packaging is made up of 98% bio-composite bio-products derived from wood fibers and is safe for your health. Bio-packaging is suitable for storing and freezing meals, foodstuffs, hot and cold drinks.

4. How do disposable containers affect the environment and the human health?

 Using disposable food packaging has a big impact on the environment. It creates waste which that can harm nature and the ecosystem. This waste can accumulate in landfills, seas, oceans, and cause air pollution. The materials used in packaging, like plastic and foam, are also harmful for human health. Some plastic containers contain chemicals that can cause health problems. Foam containers can release harmful chemicals when exposed to heat or acidic substances. Considering this, using eco- friendly materials like packaging made from bamboo, cloth napkins, and glass should be preferred.

The tendency to reduce damage to nature and prioritize the protection of the environment is gradually becoming a habit. To do this, we try to minimize waste by sorting waste, recycling packaging that can be recycled. We are slowly moving towards the usage of packaging made from biodegradable materials, replacing plastic in our daily lives.

This, in return, increases the demand for the usage of packaging materials such as cardboard, bamboo, bio and eco packaging. In addition, to meet the growing demand for sustainable alternatives, businesses are offering consumers more sustainable packaging such as biodegradable cutlery, and recyclable food containers.
